Kenya PEPFAR Program. Led at WRAIR-Africa by Dr. Dorothy Njeru, the purpose of this project is to support four counties with medium burden for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) (Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Narok) and one high-burden county (Kisumu). This research project is a collaboration with Kenya MOH.
Nigeria PEPFAR Program. Led at WRAIR-Africa by Dr. Helina Meri, the purpose of this project is to promote PEPFAR implementation; collaborative research; laboratory strengthening; disease surveillance; and health diplomacy in Nigeria. This research project is a partnership with the Nigerian Ministry of Defence Health Implementation Program (MODHIP), the Department of State’s PEPFAR Coordination Office (PCO), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), under the leadership of U.S. Ambassador and the Defense AttachĂ© at Embassy Abuja.
RV329, African Cohort Study (AFRICOS). Led by Dr. Fred Sawe, the purpose of this project is to study the determinants of HIV transmission in adolescent and adult population. AFRICOS is a large long-term observational cohort study in Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda. AFRICOS participants are enrolled from health facility clinic patient populations and allows for the unparalleled longitudinal characterization of the HIV epidemic in the African context, tracking the impact of clinical practices, biological factors and socio-behavioral issues on HIV and disease progression.
Tanzania PEPFAR Program. Led at WRAIR-Africa by Dr. Laura Chittenden, the purpose of this project is to support a comprehensive PEPFAR program that provides life-saving HIV services. This research project is a collaboration with the Tanzania Peoples’ Defense Forces (TPDF).
Uganda PEPFAR Program. Led at WRAIR-Africa by Kat Godfrey, the purpose of this project is to support a comprehensive PEPFAR program that provides life-saving HIV services in six districts, including the hard-to-reach islands in Lake Victoria. This research project is a collaboration with Implementing partner (IP) Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP).
